Kristen Thomson lives in Denver, Colorado and heads up Thomson Public Affairs, a lobbying firm that generally kicks ass and takes names for the awesome clients she likes to represent for money.
Hailed by members of the Colorado General Assembly as direct, hard-headed, and a go-to lobbyist to get shit done, Kristen lives by these principles: don’t be an idiot, take no prisoners, keep your BS to yourself, and have some damned integrity. Oh, and she is a master of strategery*. Because being shrewd and having a sense of humor are key to effective lobbying.
Kristen’s clients are not shy about her methods or effectiveness. Often heard in meetings are phrases like “Holy Shit, I can’t believe we actually got that;” or “I thought this strategy was risky but oh my god it worked;” or “That was really ballsy.” And her clients do some pretty cool things, like grow and sell legal marijuana, power rural communities and small nations with renewable resources, build organic grocery stores full of healthy foods in small communities, and help eliminate wrinkles through science and botulism. They are risk-takers and innovators. And they like winning.
Kristen cringes at phrases like “out of the box” and “honey-do list” … because, what box, and do it your own damned self. And when she isn’t making friends and influencing people, she likes to go outside and climb mountains, and kayak, and drink beer with her friends. Don’t let her awesome shoe collection fool you, she lives in Colorado and knows how to do it right.
*Kristen would like to thank George W. Bush for this contribution to our lexicon. It is important to acknowledge those who contribute to both your failures and successes. Not that Kristen has ever failed.
